POSTPONEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

The 2020 LIGHTUP Festival is postponed. The event, celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year, was scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020, at the 140 West Plaza in downtown Chapel Hill.

Due to the recent outbreak of the novel coronavirus and the peak holiday travel season, the LightUp team made the decision to postpone the event out of abundance of caution. For the people of our community whose families and friends are directly impacted by the outbreak, our thoughts and prayers are with you. We hope for their fast recovery and improvement of situations on the ground.

We thank our volunteers, Town of Chapel Hill , Downtown Chapel Hill , Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and other business and organization partners for your contribution and the community of Chapel Hill for your enthusiastic support for LIGHTUP.

We will reschedule the event when the situation allows and continue working together to celebrate cultures diversity in our town.

LIGHTUP 2020: Celebrating the Chinese New Year

Lion and dragon dance, martial art performance and hands-on workshop sessions, Play dress up at photo booth. Children’s performances, Peking opera and music ensemble, and folk dance performances.

Traditional Asian new year food, Arts, crafts and cultural activities: Chinese calligraphy and traditional paintings, children’s lantern decorations, art and craft activities. When the twilight sets in, join your family, neighbors and friends in a thousand-lantern parade to usher in the New Year of the Martel Rat.
